Win xp not booting - gets stuck on aswvrt.sys in safe mode

Hi

My old xp laptop will not boot. If I try it in safe mode it hangs on aswvrt.sys

I have followed the instructions elsewhere to make a ReatoGo bootable cd and run FRST. The log is attached.

What do I do now?

From the reatogo desktop

Run the command prompt and type in the following :

chkdsk c: /r

Once it has completed then try a normal boot

I have tried that and it gets as far as 4 percent of index checking and blue screens on a machine check exception.

Does this mean it is now a dead machine?

There is that probability. Use reatogo to backup your files before you go any further
