i did a full scan of my system recently from XP, and it found Win32:Adloader-AC [trj] in my Vista pagefile (Vista is on drive D:\ from XP’s point of view). i have since done a scan with AVG 8.0 and Trend Micro’s online scanner, neither of these found it, so is it a virus or not? ???
i am running dual boot with XP Pro x32 with SP3 and Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1

it gives no sense to scan pagefile.sys file… it could contain a lot of garbage and match the detection, but we can’t talk about the real infection or about the real false positive here…
i didn’t specifically scan the pagefile. i scanned the whole system and it came up in the detection.
and why can’t we talk about infections and false positives here?
pagefile.sys is normally not scanned. However, it is scanned when avast! scans a separate partition, and the scan frequently generates false positive detections.
There’s no real infection present, and the random swirl of information present in the file means that virus analysts would be forever chasing their tales trying to rule out false positives.
we can talk about infections and false positives off course, but not in this particular case, cause it’s simply no FP nor infection…
oh i see, you should have made that clearer earlier. so i have been worrying over nothing?
