Win32:Crypt-RQA [Trj], Win32:Enistery [Susp]

Hello,

I ran an avast security scan yesterday and it identified a file named 00032394.tmp located in C:\Program Files (x86)\SMINST folder as Win32:Enistery [Susp]. It was able to move this threat to the Virus Chest.

Like some other people have posted, Avast has flagged the file SYMEFA.DB located in C:\System Volume Information\EfaData as the trojan Win32:Crypt-RQA. When I initially tried moving it to the Virus Chest it told me access to the file was denied. I had Norton Internet Security installed on this system and removed it before attempting anything further. I changed the settings to show all of the hidden C: folders and when I right clicked on System Volume Information and said “Scan with avast” it again flagged the file as the virus, but this time was able to move the file to the virus chest.

My concern now is that I may have missed other files associated with the virus in the registry or other locations. Both Avast and Malwarebytes scans are showing no threats. I’ve attached the log files that are requested.

Any help with both of these issues is appreciated.

Thank you,

Avast is alerting on a Norton definition file in system restore, I will fix that at the end. Meanwhile I will remove what is left of Norton for you

Otherwise it looks clean

Thanks Essex.

Do I need to do anything with the files in Avast’s Virus Chest? Should I leave them there or should I delete them? Were either of them actually viruses or just Avast not agreeing with a Norton file?

Edit: The DelFix log contained this error:

Error when deleting (1) : HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ASWMBR

Not sure if that’s a big deal or not.

The error is not a problem

As for the files in the Avast chest you can delete them. Avast was alerting on the Norton definition file and was not a virus as such
