Although I have great faith in Avast, I occasionally scan my hard drives with ESET’s online scanner. My experience with it is that it finds nasties that other AV programs miss. Had exactly that happen today. The ESET scanner found Win32/Distromatic.C and indicated it was a “potentially unwanted application”. When I Googled it, I found this description on one site: “Win32.Distromatic.C application is a broad category of malicious software that can include adware, spyware, viruses, trojans, backdoors, and worms. All of these programs are designed to thwart computer security and force unwanted system behavior, activities, or damage.”
So my question is, how did this thing get past Avast (I have the latest – 2015 – version)?
