Win32:GenMalicious-IYO[Trj]

Does anyone know what this virus is? I ran a deep scan on all my drives, including my external backup drive, and this was found in a backup file that Windows created (called “Backup Set”) when I switched computers last year. Avast never detected any virus of this type on the old computer so I’m wondering why it would show up now. Just curious if this is a real virus. Avast put it in the “Chest”.

Just curious if this is a real virus.
No it is not, it is a Trojan > Win32:GenMalicious-IYO [Trj] = Trojan

Win32:GenMalicious-IYO [Trj] Generic signature covers a ton of malware so not possible to say what it is unless the detected file is analysed, also there is a risk of False positives if the file has similarity to what that signature look for

This is a backup zip file of my old computer so if I need access to my saved data, I’m kind of stuck right? I mean, I shouldn’t unpack it since it might cause the trojan to trigger, correct?

Submit the file to VirusTotal and see what is says.

Ok, will do.

Opening a zip will not trigger the trojan. Since it is a zip backup the file may be to big to upload?

If you unzip and scan the folder you will find the exact file that trigger avast detection.
Set avast action to ask so you can upload the file to Virustotal
