Did a virus scan yesterday and was told one of the files on my computer was infected with Win32:Hacktool-AU. I chose to move the file to the Chest and later on deleted the file permanently but how can I check if anything bad related to this infection is left on my PC?
I haven’t noticed anything strange and my computer works just fine both before and after I removed the infected file but it would still be nice to know for certain no traces are left…
I would have suggested asking the question before the nuclear option, deletion from the chest, it leaves zero options. Deletion isn’t really a good first option (even soon after sending to the chest, you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
Which is another good reason not to have deleted.
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
Other than run the other scans as suggest there is little we can say without the file.
The infected file was a keygen program so I guess I brought this one onto myself…anyway as all seems to be fine with my computer and it appears to be clean according to the results of the scans I’ve made both using Avast! but also a program called Advanced WindowsCare V2 Pro which comes with a built-in Spyware Removal tool I think I will just let go of this for now and hopefully I will not have any reasons regretting I did so…
