Win32:Hupigon-ONX [Trj] found

I did a full scan on my older laptop running WinXP on Sunday. It came up with 2 instances of Win32:Hupigon-ONX [Trj] in C.…\A0028638.sys and C\WinPEpge.sys. It could not repair and when I tried to move to chest it reported an Error: There is not enough space on the disk. 121.

I let a boot scan run. I was not able to stay with the computer, but when I came back to it the scan had apparently finished and the computer was rebooting, so I assume nothing was found. I then did a full scan with Malwarebytes Pro and nothing was found. I Googled and could not really find anything completely in line with my situation. I decided to throw caution to the wind and see if I could delete these two infected files. It said deletion was successful.

So then I did another full scan with Avast and it again found a file with this infection, only this time it was A0028671.sys. I deleted this file and it was successful and am doing another boot scan right now.

Anyway, is Avast messing with this computer again and reporting false positives or is this a genuine infection?

one way to find that out would be to upload and test file(s) at www.virustotal.com before you delete

I didn’t try that in all honesty, but I think the file would have been too large. Avast couldn’t put it in the chest because there wasn’t enough disk space.

Am I correct in assuming that if a problem is found during a boot scan, I would be asked to make a selection as to what I want to do with it before the scan would resume?
