Win32:malware-gen [Resolved]

I was running my Avast! 4.8 this morning and got a warning about two Win32:malware-gen,
I tried moving it to Chest but it said there was an error. I also tried repairing but that also
wouldn’t work. I ran my Malwarebyte’s Anti-malware and nothing shows up (I’m currently
running it again). Do you think this maybe an False positive? If it isn’t how can I get rid of this? ???

  1. Not really, sorry. :frowning:
  2. First you should update your avast to the latest version (5.0.594) if your OS allows it.
  3. Run a boot time scan with avast.
  4. Update Mbam and run the scan again.
  5. Report back your results.

Will do!

I updated my avast to 5.0 but it won’t allow me to run boot time scan…
It says its only available for 32bit operating systems… I have no clue what
this means :frowning:

Do you have a 64bit system…??
asyn

Yes >.<

Right now there’s no boot time scan for 64bit systems. (will be available with avast 5.1)
So skip that and run Mbam. (update it first)
asyn

Ok, my Mbam has been updated. Now should I do a quick scan or full?

Run a full scan and report back…!
asyn

I ran Mbam, it didn’t find anything. Now what should I
do? I also ran Avast (Quick scan) and now it says nothings
there… When I ran quick scan on the 4.8 version it said I had
two infected files.

Here is my Mbam log:

Make sure your Avast definitions are up to date and run an Avast FULL scan and report back.

Will do!

I ran a full system scan and there was no virus found. :o

Seems you’re clean or the virus is well hidden.
Are you experiencing any problems with your system…??
asyn

No,it’s running like it normally does. It’s weird when I had
the older version of avast it showed up but mbam never
picked up anything… Also, the new version of avast said
my system is clean. ??? Maybe a quirk? Is there anything
else I should do to make sure I don’t have a virus or to find
if it is hidden?

If your system is running fine, it could be just a problem with an old VPS version.

Ok, thank you Asyn and Safesurf for your help! ;D

You’re welcome…!!

You’re welcome Pebbs101.

Sometimes an update VPS will fix the problem. However, if you have a 32-bit machine, run an Avast Boot-time scan as well (it will take a while to run). If that comes out clean, then you can whistle. ;D
