Win32.Mimail.P

Win32.Mimail.P
I found 2 variants at the last update but I can not figure out which is this Win32.Mimail.P:
Win32:Mimail-C-unp
Win32:Mimail-N [Wrm]
are we protected? ???

Yes.
There are many variants of the MiMail worm already, so the versioning of the particular antivirus companies “diverged” (especially the E variants caused the confusion).
The worm called as MiMail.P by Symantec is called MiMail.N by avast! ;D

igor can you not ALL agree on a name for a virus? F-secure calls it w32.minmail.p@mm

To Igor,
many thanx for ur reply… ;D

To MacLover2000,
I second that

Pavel will probably tell you more but just to get an idea of how difficult to implement this feature would actually be, imagine the real scenario:

A new virus is trapped in AV vendor’s labs. Now Symantec calls Kaspersky, Kaspersky calls Eset, Eset calls Alwil, Alwil calles McAfee, McAfee calls Trend Micro, Trend Micro calls Grisoft, Grisoft calls Panda etc etc etc to agree on the same name? Hardly:slight_smile:

Everyone needs to release the updates ASAP, and must pick a name. There’s no time to wait for other companies to agree on a commonly-accepted one.

… especially for not-so-dangerous variants. If a major thread appears, it’s good to have the same name (even though it’s not always the case either) - because the name is known to public (e.g. Sobig.F). But for every minor variant… it would be hardly possible.

thanx for the fast explanation guys. ;D ;D
