I’m new to these forums and really hope someone can help.
A couple of days ago Avast came up telling me I had a Trojan Horse, then a virus/worm, then Malware. I ran a complete scan which came up with over 70 infected files which it put into the chest.
Then I ran a scan using Malwarebytes.org which came up with a log saying 2 files had been infected. Yesterday I ran a Dr Web scan which came up with 7 files infected, 2 of which it deleted and the others it had moved.
Have I finally managed to get rid of this virus? Whenever I get to my desktop I keep getting 2 error messages coming up which say: RUNDLL Error loading C:WINDOWS\owetakobiloba.dll The specified module could not be found and another message saying: RUNDLL Error loading C:WINDOWS\d3cpls.dll
These are remnants of the infection, the infected file has been removed, but the associated registry entry remains and that is why the error is there.
These registry entries are trying to register the .dll files so they would be active.
I would have thought that MBAM would find and remove these registry entries. Try running it again and see if it picks them up.
If not try using CCleaner to check the registry for errors - CCleaner - Temp File Cleaner, etc.. Whilst this is primarily for cleaning temp files it also has a Registry checker function, see image1.
When you run this it is going to possibly find other things (see image2), everything by default will have the check box to the left of the entry checked. Use the master Check box at the top in the Column headers and deselect them all, this way we aren’t going to remove anything which may have any unknown repercussion (for the most part the ccleaner registry check is low key and not very deep (read potential for harm)).
Now scroll down the returned list looking for references to those two files, click the check box to the left of them when found (don’t touch anything else). Once you have this done, click the Fix selected issues… button. CCleaner will ask if you want to backup changes to the registry say Yes, even though in this case we are sure we want them gone, but it is a good habit to keep as it gives you a shot at reversing any error you make. You will get another pop-up window, click the Fix All Selected Issues, notice you have multiple opportunities to back out if you feel you have made a mistake or get cold feet.
