Win32:SecondThought[Trj]

When I scan with Avast! It detects the Win32:SecondThought[Trj] virus in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_America Online 9.0\storage\cache.db file but when I scan my computer with Micro Trend’s House Call or Authentum’s Command on Demand both detect nothing. Do I have a virus or not? Is nWin32:SecondThought[Trj] a fake? Please help! ???

I got this same alert tonite when i scanned my computer didnt go to micro trends though. I was able to delete it but not repair my files after i deleted it i scanned my puter again and nothing came up but wondering if my files are damaged or is this just a fake hmmm…

got the same virus…but is in my restore files…avast finds it but cannot move, delete, repair, or put into chest, it says that it is in use by another program and access is denied. Also have Win 32: Trojan-Gen {VC} in restore file also.
Any Ideas???

Sounds like false alarms. About the reported files in the restore folder: Just disable restart and enable your Systemrestore and the files will be gone:

Would you suggest leaving the supposed infected file in the chest or restoring it and adding it to the excluded list? Why is it detecting a virus if there is not one there? Where might I find information about the virus Win32:SecondThought[Trj]? Please forgive me for my ignorance but I am not extremely computer literate. I do know though that friends around me have been losing their computers to viruses and I have been spared so far. I attribute that to Avast! and regular scans for that I am extremely grateful. ::slight_smile:

I just finished a scan and have 700 lines of files that were not scanned and the reason given is archive is corrupt. Everything from C:\program files to C:\WINDOWS. The only thing they all seem to have in common is they all end with the following: [As Pack]. I scanned as I normally do with settings set to standard scan scanning all local drives including archived files. I hadn’t had any problems until the most recent program update. I am using version 4.1.412. I have never had much of a log of files that Avast! was unable to scan until today. What is going on? I am getting concerned and a bit nervous. Please help. ???

You should leeve the file in the chest, or send the file to virus@asw.cz ,

about “your” Virus: http://www.virusbtn.com/resources/vgrep/vgrep.cgi?terms=Win32%3ASecondThough&product=0

And yes, it seems that Avast has some Problems with ASpack files. BTW: there should normally be no aspack packed files inside the Windowsdir. Which files, in the Windowsfolder, are reported as ASpacked?
ASpack packed files in Systemfolders indicates malware. Not alwayse but often!

Most of the files that came back unable to scan are from C:\Windows. Here are a few:

This is but a few of the files there are 620 files in the C:\Windows that came back unable to scan because of the archive being corrupt. All say [As Pack]. Please oh please don’t tell me I’m ate up with viruses. All virus scanners I have been using have detected none. Micro Trend … Command On Demand … and you guys.

“Cool”! Avast has a false alarm on their ASPack identification. The files reported as packed with ASpack aren´t packed with aspack!

Cool because I’m o.k. and need not worry about malware or Cool because we have just identified another bug in the latest and greatest update? :o

Also, may I add you to my ICQ?

To see, if you are infected or not, you could try this scanner as a backupscanner:
http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp.

About ICQ, yes, why not, but i am not often online or most of the time “away”, but you may try if you can get me.

It’s definitely a bug, but only to those of us that dl’ed the latest build (build 412). The previous build (build 396) didn’t have this bug. Is it an Easter Egg or very annoying bug? Avast should look into this problem and fix it. Every *.exe and *.zip and *.rar that were archives were tagged [AsPack]. However normal *.exe files were left alone. I scanned my C:\Documents and Settings folder in XP Home. This were my results.

Thank you Raman, I disabled system restore and restarted my PC…worked great.
Thanks again
