Win32.TratBHO (trj) Can´t be removed by avast! Home edition

Hi !

I am trying to remove the Win32.TratBHO (trj) virus. It is being detected by avast antivirus but it cant be removed. I turned in my computer 2 times for service and payed 60USD to have it removed but the guys at the computer store havent been able to remove it, very annoying.
Anyhow what it does is to open IE windows and wants me to download fake registry cleaner programs etc. Everytime I open MSN messsenger it starts to send out messages, and I cant control this process…

I am not very good with computers, so wouldnt it be possible to update the Avast virus definitions so the problem can be easily solved ?

Thank you in advance !

Best regards

Let me have a look. I am surprised they didn’t say re-format, but 90% of the time it is relatively easy to remove with the right tools

Download & Run HijackThis.exe

[*]Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
[*]Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
[*]By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
[*]Click on Install.
[*]It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
[*]Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
[*]Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
[*]Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don’t use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don’t have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Thank you for your reply essexboy !

Ok, I will as soon as possible I am busy writing a thesis, but as soon as I find time I will do as you say

Welcome to the forums, jchronley.

Your problem may be similar but the cure may be different. It is best to start your own thread so as to not interfere with the help given to the problem in this thread. Please do this and someone will help you as soon as they can.

As CharleyO said in the previous post it is best to create your ‘own’ new topic so you can be helped in isolation, so the topic doesn’t become confused with instructions for multiple posters.

If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan, which should be able to cope with files in use issues. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.
