Win32:Trojan-gen {Other} Found in Adobe Installer File, Please help!

Hey guys, so I just recently downloaded and installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0 a couple days ago. Upon scanning my computer earlier today, Avast picked up this:

9/3/2008 7:14:16 PM Carlton 3332 Sign of “Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}” has been found in “C:\Users\Carlton\AppData\Local\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Setup Files\AIR\Adobe AIR Installer.exe” file.

Kinda hard to believe that Adobe would bundle any malicious items with their software, but you never know, and I just want to make sure everything is fine.

So I decided to upload this file to VirusTotal and Jotti to see whats up, here are the results:

Virus Total:

Thanks in advance guys!

Unnecessary (deactivated) entry that can be fixed. This entry was classified from our visitors as good.
Is this something you run “on demand” as it does not appear to be active
good news is that it does not appear to be malicious

This is related to Windows Live Messenger, have you uninstalled that ?

systemlookup.com/lists…search={7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045}&s=

nope, I didn’t uninstall it. I had it running and I was in appear offline mode, could that have been what caused that line?

Most likely what caused the notification
rest of your log looked clean

Well according to your HJT log and the entry that wyrmrider posted, there is something wrong with it as that BHO shouldn’t work as the file is missing. I just mentioned it as I didn’t want you to delete it is you actually used it.

That may be why it is in off-line mode, but that is pure speculation on my part as I don’t use ‘any’ of the windows ‘live’ product range.

however we are talking about windows messenger not msn messenger (instant messenger)
if you are not using windows messenger read up on it and decide if you need to keep it
let us know
personal choice here but it has been associated with some problems so use it or loose it
I am not suggesting that you delete something that you use- neither is DavidR-- just check it out

yea, i was referring to windows live messenger as well.
yep I currently do use it on a day to day basis.

thanks for the replies btw, I really appreciate it.

You’re welcome.
