win32 trojan-gen

Avast has found the win32 trojan-gen virus. I’ve been reading what you guys have to say about getting if a system but I have a prob…Avast will find it like every few seconds and it keeps renaming itself. ex - win17.tmp, win80.tmp, etc. So when I delete one another one is right behind. It’s driving me nuts!!! They are all located in my Local Settings/Temp folder. Could this be a false positive? I am about to run a scan using another product to see if it still picks it up.

Do any of you guys have thoughts on this? It’s getting real annoying. I’ve been dealing w/ this since 3:00. Not how I wanted to spend my day off.

BTW… I’m running Win XP, Zone Alarm Pro, & avast 4.6 Pro.

Please help! Thanx!

I can make some suggestions (hope they can help in anyway…):

  1. Have you tried to delete the temporary Internet files? To do this go to Internet explorer >Tools > Internet options > Delete files > Click delete all offline content (just to be sure) > click ok. It might take some time to delete them.

  2. Disable (and enable it after) System Restore: Start > Control Panel > System > System restore > Disable > Click Apply > Enable it again > Click Ok

  3. Schedule a boot-time scanning: Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning > Select for scanning archives > Boot
