Win32:Trojan-gen

I was downloading Acrobat Reader 9 from Adobe web site. I got the message that this virus Win32:Trojan-gen was on the system. Now , I work with Adobe products everyday. I scanned the computer with other virus protection and there was no virus. How ever when ever I go to get Acrobat Reader , Avast says it is a virus. What is the issue if there is no virus on my system?

Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section,
this contains information on all avast detections
post the info back here

did you move the virus to the chest as preferred?

Baddies can inject malicious code into otherwise good files- or this might be a mis detection aka false positive- but I would not bet my system on it with information given
therefore

two things to do
One rt click the ball and do update-programs
then rt click again and schedule a boot time avast scan
reboot
move any hits to the chest
post the log

then - or first
download, update and run Malware bytes anti malware (malwarebytes.org)
put a checkmark next to anything found
click FIX CHECKED
post the log

I moved it to the chest.
Here is info from the log file:
9/3/2008 7:09:21 PM Joan 1484 Sign of “Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}” has been found in “C:\Documents and Settings\Joan\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Setup Files\AIR\Adobe AIR Installer.exe” file.
Ran the malware program, no problems found.
Here is the log from that

File is too big to email through the chest. It is the Acrobat Reader installer.
I ran the two online virus checkers and two spyware checkers.

Nothing found.

Oh and thanks for the quick reply.

Looks like a false positive. I hope Alwil can fix this.

Hey JF, I just got this exact same problem (installed Adobe Reader 9.0 a couple days ago).

I scanned the file using Virus Total and Jotti and 5-6 other anti-virus engines also picked it up as a Trojan.

I’ve posted my problem here as well in http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=38436.0 in case you want to check it out.

Apparently, only 4 scanners are detecting this file. GData uses two engines, avast! and BitDefender.
