In order to help fully we need more information…

  • What OS are you using? is it up to date?
if XP,win2k, winNT then schedule a boot-time scan from within avast.
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0607-3 (see about avast!)
  • What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
    example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
  • What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?

If avast detected it why couldn’t it be got rid off, error/warning messages, etc. ?

running xp upto date

avast v.4.6 home

file name !!! c:\system volume information_ restore

0607_2 virus database

Actions so far !!!

turned off system restore !!!
deleted all temp files !!!
cleanup !!!
reboot!!!

i hope this helps !!!

Thanks

After a disabling system restore your reboot should have cleared ALL restore points including the infected one.

With this and the other actions you have done you should be clean from that particular virus, are you saying it is still there “Any help would to get rid of of this trojan would be appreciated.”

General Information Virus Chest:
Leave the file in the avast Chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. You should leave it there for a week or two to ensure no harmful effects of having moved it. If there are no harmful effects, then scan it again if that scan also confirms it as infected you can delete it from within the chest. In your case this can be deleted now from the Virus Chest (not treasure chest, you wouldn’t want to treasure this ;D ), open the virus chest and select the infected file and select delete.

Do another scan to confirm you are clear and if so, enable system restore.

That should have fixed it 'cos the problem was in your system restore…

thanks for the help .

I will delete the files in the virus chest and try another scan later on . Should system restore be turned off while i do my scan ???

No if your cleared your old system restore

I will wait a couple of days and then delete the files in the chest.

New scan was clear .

Thanks for your help
