When I tried to make new Acronis Trueimage 8.0 boot CD, AVAST alerted to trojano-916 in Media Builder.exe. I have been unable to find any information on 916. I uninstalled the program and tried to re-install, but I got the same alert. Can anyone help?
How big is the file? Can you submit is to virus@avast.com, please (with a short description… preferably packed in ZIP or RAR and protected with some password).
Thanks!
The file is trueimage8.0_s_en.exe and is 24meg. I will send it if you want, but am unsure how to password protect it.
I mean the Media Builder.exe only, if it’s possible.
Sorry, I misunderstood. I have uninstalled the program for now and AVAST will not let it get past the setup without warning when I try to reinstall. It posts the message about the mediabuilder.exe and I exited the setup. I have it on another machine, I think, and will check later today.
When the virus warning pops up, can you move the file to Chest?
If yes, it’s possible to “Send the file to ALWIL Software” directly from the Chest.
The file is about 4 meg and when I email it says that it is over the 1024k limit.
You can change the limit to a higger value into avast settings…
Or you can ask for a FTP site to upload it (Maybe pk could do it for you…).
OK, thank you guys for all your comments. Had to go to work, so I was able to check a couple of things out. I ran ZoneAlarm and Housecall antivirus on the same installation and neither of them alerted to a trojan, but AVAST did. I forwarded a copy of the file from the virus chest before I left, but did a dumb thing (in a hurry) and didn’t identify it as mediabuilder.exe. Now I would like to reinstall acronis trueimage 8 on this machine, but AVAST alerts and when I finish the setup, I can’t use the mediabuilder program to make boot CD. I think the file is OK but don’t know how to tell AVAST to ignore it. Will also try to figure out how to ftp it or reset my limit as suggested
I believe we have already received the file.
Until the false alarm is fixed (which should be soon), I suggest to put the file to the exclusions of the Standard Shield provider - so, click on the avast! blue tray icon to open the On-Access Scanner window, select the Standard Shield provider (click on “Details…>>” first, if not already expanded), switch to the last page and add e.g.
*\mediabuilder.exe
into the list of exclusions. The should prevent avast! from scanning it.
When the next database update is released, you can remove it, of course.
OK thanks for all the help. I will add it to the exclusions.
