Win32:VB-CNY [Wrm] + clipboard.exe

Hi,

Avast popped up and warned me that clipboard.exe was infected with Win32:VB-CNY [Wrm] - any idea if that’s a real virus and if so what damage it may have caused/how I can repair etc.?

I googled it but didn’t come up with anything useful and searched the forum here first before posting.

Ps. For now I put it into the chest to be on the safe side. Any help is appreciate guys (and gals!).

Cheers

Whatever is the infection, it would be good if you schedule a boot time scanning with avast.
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.

It will be good too if you download, install, update and run other trojan remover tools:
a-squared
Free AVG Antispyware
SUPERantispyware

I googled clipboard.exe worm and that returns more useful hits http://www.castlecops.com/s13615-clipboard_exe.html also a forum search for clipboard.exe shows up in a topic on Swizzor infection http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=25248.msg206722#msg206722.

Now I searched my XP pro c: drive and all sub folders for clipboard.exe and no file found.

So yes this would appear to be a virus/worm/trojan.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Cheers

Your welcome.

If you aren’t sure you can also confirm detections by getting a second opinion.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.
