So, all of sudden, I booted my PC and I came with this virus, Virurt-B. It infected a lot of .exe files, including the software I use at work. I tried to repair those files and sending the virus to the Quarantine(Virus Chest, I think), but avast! said it was unable to do so, and then, avast! couldn’t do anything with it. I tried a boot scan, but after it, explorer.exe wouldn’t load up. I formated the PC and recovered a previous backup… Do you guys know anything about the virus?
Yep so far it is unrepairable - there are a few tools that claim to be able to do it but with no great success. As once it is in, it will infected any .exe file that is run or running
Hi folks,
The name of the malware is Virut b, W32/Virut-B is a virus and IRC backdoor for the Windows platform.
When a file infected with W32/Virut-B is run, the virus will become resident in memory, and will attempt to infect any executable that is accessed by any process running on the system. W32/Virut-B will thus spread very quickly throughout the filesystem.
W32/Virut-B will also attempt to connect to an IRC channel and thus serves as a backdoor with which a remote attacker may compromise the system.
And another tragic way how users were being infected can be read here:

Thanks polonus. So, it’s like a virus that opens a port on your PC, and the PC understands that the port will be used for a IRC program, but a hacker screws the system up with it, while the virus infects all the exes running… Oh god.
Hi Gouveia,
But when your system is clean again, and you changed your passwords and all, and you have a fully patched and updated OS, and also a updated resident av scanner running, you will run minimal risks, because the av software will catch this type of malware before it can do much harm, and put it in the chest,

Oh, I’m reliefed now. I thought that the network could be infected
Thank you all for the replies.
