Win32:WimAD-I [Trj]

Hi

My avast scan has shown that I have the above Trojan. Is it serious is there anything I should do with it besides move it to the chest?

Thanks

Pauline

Can you tell us the exact location of the trojan on your computer?

Can you say what is the infected file name, where was it found (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx)?
What avast! version and virus database are you using? (see About dialog of avast!)

Current version of Virus database 090423-0 23/04 Avast!4.8

Location found
C:\Users\Pauline\Music

I have used Limewire and this is where these infections came from. Wont be using it again. I live in a country where it is legal to use peer to peer music sharing facilities. If anyone knows of a better service with less viruses, please let me know.

Thanks

Pauline

Old version of Shareaza was great, until they “updated” (read: sold to another company that ruined it).

Azuerus or now, “Vuze” is a good torrent program.

However, I could suggest file sharing programs until I am blue in the face, but the simple fact is that the client (program) isn’t what’s causing the viruses. It’s the content that you’re downloading, and no matter what you do, there will always be a possibility of a malicious file on the internet somewhere. P2P programs just have more viruses usually, as most things shared are illegal in the first place.

Do yourself a favor, and stop using the programs, or be smart about what you download with them.

For torrent i highly recommand Utorrent you wont got any problem for virus unless of what you download !!! Isohunt is a good website for search torrent or mininova too. Blubster is for music and another thing its really good and 100 % no virus (i never had a virus on these program so its depend on what u wanna download in the same time)

Mr.Agent

Thanks for the replies about a good peer to peer program. I see that I have used loose terminology. I apologise about saying that it is Limewire that has caused the problem It is of course my use of the program that has caused my own problem because I downloaded from insecure sites using Limewire. I have heard though that other peer to peer programs filter out these things in a better way?

This still does not tell me if my trojan is a serious one? What should I do with it?

I have looked up info on chests. Is this trojan just one to keep in the chest?

Cheers

Pauline
