I have Windows 8 with Windows Defender installed. Would now install avast compatible mode as a second line of defense, but that option doesnt appear. The avast removed this function?
hey and welcome to the forum. i also use windows 8. and i had to disable the windows defenders realtime sheld before i could install avast. so you have to do the sane thing before installing avast or else you get a confliction. i got it anyway.
i used this guide.
http://xtendedview.com/computer/windows-8/disable-windows-defender-in-windows-8/740/
good luck.
Windows defender should disable itself once you install another Anti-virus.
mikaelrask there are some discrepancies within that link and the information given, first - you can not uninstall Defender from Win8, secondly - there should be no need to change the Defender file name, if you have disabled Defender via services then it cant start, thirdly - when in services there should only be the one service " Windows Defender Service " there is no Windows Network Inspection Service, the Windows Network Inspection Service was included with MSE.
My idea was install avast in compatibility mode, which is supposed to let you install Avast as a secondary security program.
I think the problem is that avast doesn’t detect windows defender, doesn’t detect any antivirus installed, so the option “install in compatibillity mode” is not available…
Have you tried via a custom install ? Personally though if you are going to install avast why not use the full features and let avast disable Defender, avast has much better detection and protection than Defender.
custom instal doesn’t have that option…
there’s no any "compatible install option"available, just express and custom, and the costum only has the options for disable shields and apps.
I would like to know if there is any facility available for members of Avast users, to get free license for complete internet anvirus protection for one year Can someone help me for doing it?
there is avast free…that is free for as long as you like
