Windows 8

May I suggest that you start your own topic so that we can help you with your personal change over questions
and not take this Topic off course.
Thanks.

Since it was suggested that I start my own topic I would like to say that I absolutely hate Windows 8. I hate the way it looks and can’t figure out how to use it. Think I’m going to return it and get another Windows 7

The following is how my brother feels about Windows 8.

We did get Devin a new laptop a while back and it has Window 8 and not to be discouraging but my experience with helping him with it is that version 8 Is a but difficult to use and nothing like W7.

Is there a question here?
Is it related to avast?

;D I have Win8.1 on an Acer laptop ( no touch screen).

I loathed Win8 when I first got it, and at times was on the verge of binning the whole thing, the 8.1 update made things a lot better.

Now having used it for a few months I would never go back to W7.

Win7 is a superb OS, Win8 is different, takes some knowing , but it is better and more secure.

The one thing I would not be without is Stardock Start menu >> http://www.stardock.com it makes life so much easier.

If you go to the " Store" in Win8 you will find several free Win8 hints and tips apps.

Set it to boot straight to desktop and then it is essentially Windows 7 optimised

I’m back on Windows 7 now. I don’t have the slightest idea of how to set it to boot straight to desktop. ???

You right click on the task bar>Properties>Navigation.

There is an option to boot straight to the desktop.

That’s if you have upgraded to 8.1  otherwise any of the start button programs ( Stardock, ClassicShell, etc ) also contain the option to boot to desktop.

You right click on the task bar>Properties>Navigation.

There is an option to boot straight to the desktop.

Thanks for that information! I always end up on the desktop anyway glad I can now go there directly!

Cheers,
Janice

I’m using Windows 8 right now but I don’t know how to update to 8.1.

It took a very long time but I did manage to update to 8.1

There a way to download windows 8.1 iso using the product key of your windows 8 here:
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/get-the-iso-you-need-to-create-your-own-windows-81-dvd/

I can’t figure how to log off and restart my computer. Help

If you are on Win 8.1, simply right click on the Start menu(Shut down or sign out)… If still on Win 8, then put your mouse to the far right of the screen(to the edge) until the Charms bar shows itself, go to Settings and below you will see a button called Power, click it.

Right click the windows start icon bottom left corner and scroll over Shut down or sign out.

I can’t find it.

Go to the desktop screen interface first and then you’ll see the windows start icon, or if you are still in the modern start screen ( the apps screen ) move your mouse to the top or bottom right of the screen and the charms bar will appear, move the mouse over the setting icon and click which will show the power button.

How do I uninstall McAfee Antivirus?

Remove via Programs and feature first, reboot then run the removal tool http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

It’s not listed in the control panel.

You might still have the default view ( category ) set on control panel, on the control panel screen click the view icon up top right to change the view to large icons.

You can also right click the start menu icon ( bottom left corner ) and at the top of the menu screen is Programs and Features.

I still couldn’t find it. I did manage to download Classic Shell. It’s much easier to use now.
