Windows Explorer hangs under 'Scanned All Files' setting

I am trying out Avast Free Beta 22.4.6009.

In File Shield Settings, I chose to scan ‘All Files’ instead of recommended extensions because many malware can disguise using extensions.

When I opened my external hard disk folder containing many large size video files, Windows Explorer hangs and I can’t do anything until I restart Windows Explorer. I solved this problem by excluding the folder from Behaviour Shield and File Shield.

Other antivirus programs don’t have this problem with scanning all files.

Please fix this.

The point is not that I am using Beta. The normal version 22.3 has same problem but I mentioned I’m using Beta to let you know that even Beta didn’t fix this problem.

In this Forum, others have reported since 2019 that when scanning ‘all files’ in File Shield, Windows Explorer tend to hang or crash. It is time the developers tackle this problem once for all.

Also, is the File Shield setting to scan only recommended extensions safe? Doesn’t some malware use extensions like mp4, jpg?

In short, yes. The Avast File Shield is only one layer of protection…
