After installing Avast 4, I have a problem when logging on, windows seemes to freeze. I’m using windows XP pro and no other antivirus software, I use Zonelab firewall. I have not previously encountered any problems with this configuration, but after reinstalling windows i can only logon 1 out of 5 times.
Unistalling Avast seemes to resolve the problem with logon??
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this problem?

Leave Avast installed, and prevent ZA from loading at boottime. See if that is solving the problem. If so, remove ZA and reinstall it.
Keep us informed about the results.
Kent, Eddy is right. Probably ZA and avast! togheter are freezing the boot.

Sorry for my late reply. I have been investigating several options based on your answers. First I tried to put all ZA dll’s and exe files into exclusions. It helped some but still not stabile. Instead I used this startup delay program. It has solved all problems completely, and furthermore it is a handy tool to start up other programs as well. also by starting programs one by one the CPU is not loaded so hard after login
