Since the new version 5.1.889 was installed, Windows security alerts turns red and says no antivirus protection was found. Is there a fix for this.
Also, how do I post a screenshot from a virus alert?

Have you rebooted since installing ?
What OS are you using ?
Use the Additional Options option in the Reply window to attach an image file (.gif, jpg or .png) to your posts. The gif file format generally produces the smallest file size, don’t post a full screenshot, only the relevant part (crop) or the active window (your alert). This also helps keep the file size down and helps those still stuck on dial-up.

Yes I have rebooted. Using windows vista home premium 32 bit.
Any previous antivirus installed? Any other security apps installed?

No previous av installed. The article you gave me refers to xp and I have vista. Will it still apply. It is late night here, so I will post results tomorrow. I may remove avast completely again and install from scratch. Thanks for the help.
Check the lower half of the link posted by DavidR for the vista instructions.
The Windows security centre can be a fickle wee beastie.
You’re welcome, as Tarq57 mentions the topic is combined with instructions for both XP and Vista.
I tried the the suggestion above and it appeared to work for about 10 minutes. After that, I just wiped out Avast and did a new clean install and it has been working for about a day now, so it appears the clean install solved the problem. Thanks again for the help.
You’re welcome.
