The new Security updates that came out today gave me a little problem.
I received the following error message: [Error number: 0x80072F76]
In order to fix this problem, I needed to disable the Proxy Server set up for the avast! Web Shield
Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, UN CHECK Use the Proxy Server (127.0.0.1 Port 1280)
Once that was done, I was able to access the Update Site.
Remember to re-enable the server if you intend to use Web Shield again after the update.
Didn’t have to touch a thing getting those updates here – but maybe that’s because the Web Shield’s proxy is essentially “transparent” under XP, same as the mail provider.
My main gripe about this set of updates (and probably the last few too, come to think of it) is that they all have exactly the same “boilerplate” description, and you have to go to the bulletins (sometimes no better) to get more info.
I have windows notify me of updates, then I click on the hyperlink in the description and download the whole update to my hard drive. This saves me from downloading it all over again when I format the hard drive.
