Windows Technical Preview

After installing Windows Technical Preview (Windows 10) Avast is no longer supported, is there an estimated time till it will be updated to work with the new OS?

Don’t feel protected without good ol’trusty Avast

a wild guess … when the OS is ready to be released

avast won’t protect until it’s (Win10) at least at the RC (Release Candidate) stage.
There are too many bugs in the Win10 beta stage for avast to be effective. You’re
looking to about 1 to 1 1/2 years from now.

This isn’t uncommon as it is Microsoft that dictates what AVs are supported in the very early OS development. This was exactly the same for windows 8. Until MS authorise other AVs it is probably going to allow only MS products, Windows Defender, etc. or whatever they are going to call it this time round.

I don’t know why people would go and ask about. No one will start working on a anti-virus program until the program is in RC, Windows 10 just came out into beta, At this moment, Microsoft can change things in the OS and mess a lot of things up, It wouldn’t be worth anyone time if one of these companys put there time into working on something that in beta.

Technically it isn’t a beta, it is even earlier than that, just a Technical Preview, which is probably even earlier than an Alpha build.

But you get what I mean.

Is there a way to install avast! in compatibility mode into Windows 10?

It isn’t anything to do with avast as such, if you aren’t on the list no approval to install. MS will have a list of approved antivirus programs - at this early point my guess is that will probably only be windows defender. This is the very same stroke they played when win8 was in technical preview and for some time after.

Seems not: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=155927.msg1130502#msg1130502

I just installed Avira without issue. So I suppose that’s what I’m stuck with until Avast releases a W10 Beta.

Yes, it should be interesting to see how that fairs for you as MS constantly changes the OS code.

AVG Free seems to be working

Why do you folks assume the Windows Defender package provided with the OS is somehow worse than a 3rd party solution that’s not likely to actually be made to work with Win 10?

-Noel

Who made this assumption?

Anyone here trying to use a non-Microsoft antivirus package with Windows 10 has made the assumption that a software package that’s not likely had much testing with Windows 10 TP is somehow better than Microsoft’s included anti-malware solution.

Don’t get me wrong, I personally believe Avast is a lot better protection than Microsoft’s software on an OS for which it’s supported, but that’s just not what we have here.

Since there are more than 1 Million testers of Windows 10, I’m hoping it will not
be very long before Avast has a version ready for that OS.
Till then, I’ll leave what’s native to windows as it’s protector.

i am running windows 10 on my laptop with avast and so far not had any problems with avast

Online installer should work but I have to warn that you will not be able to update or uninstall Avast. You would have to use avastclear from safe mode.
