Windows update files being flagged as suspicious.

Hi last 2 days when windows 10 with anniversary update connects to check for updates, avast will pop up with a suspicious file warning and recommend block,I have clicked allow as it says windows update in the file name and coincides with exactly the time windows says it has checked for updates.

Windows and Avast programs are fully up to date and hardened mode is disabled.

any thoughts guys

It is just the filerep warning and it is correct.
It means that not many avast users have downloaded the file.
The message will not be shown if more people have downloaded it.

You can disable this warning/checking in the options.

Thanks for the quick reply Eddy, the warning needed a block/allow option.

If I disable file reputation services will Avast block in the back ground and cause microsoft update issues or allow later when white listed.

Thanks again

Just wondering if its safe to disable filerep as it only seems to be windows updates that require action.or just keep clicking allow when it pops up ?

As I said, it is just a warning.
Just like the sign “traffic lights ahead”.
It doesn’t mean you have to stop (immediately)
It is more like “proceed with caution”

I would say leave it enabled just in case you one day download something that you really need to be warned for.
Better a warning for (in this case harmless updates) something, than sorry later.

Thanks Eddy for the update  Been ok today although I updated manually, can put up with a few pop ups,at least its doing its job and could be invaluable in future.

Can’t Avast team exclude Windows updates? After all the windows update installer should be a trusted and signed Microsoft program and should be in the permanent cache?
