I just updated my Windows 7 x64 with the latest updates and at the end of the installation Avast (Update 120711-1) reported that a rootkit was found on my PC. I guess it’s a FP so I chose the Ignore option rather than Delete and let the Windows Update install completely.
Aynone else experienced something like that? The updates I installed today:
I run MBAM with the latest update and it found nothing. Now I’m running a thorough Avast scan, nothing found so far… How do I scan with Avast for rootkits again, with boot scan maybe? And what to do if it finds a rootkit again, should I just select the delete option?
Yes a boot scan will search for rootkits but if your sure that it was a windows update then i would suspect a FP, if it is detected again thoroughly check the file before doing anything and if your still not sure then always send to chest until you can verify it further - never delet as a first option as then there are no options left.
What would help is the full information on the avast alert, without that everything is speculation.
I never ever download the malicious Software Removal Tool (mainly because I’m confident my system is clean), there is a possibility (there is the speculation) avast didn’t like something in this or the way it does its job.
