Windows Update Problem

Hey people! i just have a problem with windows update :frowning: ATM i cant use the website update obviously cause i have a illegit XP so i use the auto update feature
but when the icon comes up and a window pops up with the updates saying Download / Cancel… i click download and after a while the icon disappears from the taskbar in the right bottom corner :frowning:
Can illegit XPs update using Autoupdate feature?
Thanks

I think you should direct your question to one of those Microsoft forums or help boards… we deal with avast! antivirus and computer security related things, and surelly we don’t deal with non-legal software issues.

Btw, even with version of Windows like you have, autoupdate should work fine… it states so on the official Micrososft Windows Update web site.

Cheers !

Feed a programmer.
Go to a store and buy XP.
Problem solved.

Victor123 Victor123 Victor123 you naughty person an illegit XP copy what are we to do ;D ;D

if you do a search on the web there are a couple of ways around this I think I read one was using a

javascript:void something and another using a replacment .dll file I can’t remember which sites they are

Hello Eddy,

Why don’t you advise the man to do a special upgrade and buy that one in the shop, is always a lot cheaper than the full version, and everything is legit.
The same with Windows Office, always buy the upgrade version in these cases.
To-days’ money is not cheap for a lot of people, and I certainly like to pay once or go for an alternative if it is around. What is wrong to shopping around. And then there is the lite as well.

I have the same problem. It should work but it doesn’t ??? ??? ??? :frowning: :frowning:

If you can get into windows update and it lists the updates, select custom, you should be able to expand the update item by clicking the + sign, you can then click the More info… that should take you to the KB items detailed information and from there I believe that there is a link to enable you to download it (outside of windows update) to your HDD and you can install it manually later.

However, the WGA windows genuine advantage checks are not as easily circumvented, MS reads the same sites that show the hacks.

Funniest thing of all, and no one even mentioned is… you don’t even need any crack or anything. Just go to IE, chose Tools / Manage Add-ons.

When window opens, box where it says SHOW: shows Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer. The one needs to change it to Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer.

Then inside the list find WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE and disable it. Close the IE, and start Windows updates. It should work without any problems. I am telling this because this is not a crack or patch or anything like that. It’s all about your add-ons… no one can force anyone to use them or not to use them, so everyone has rights to disable anything he/she doesn’t need

Yes,I know about that~
Just unhappy the automatic updates don’t work properly.

Edit- Thanks !! you ppl helped me heaps !! i manually downloaded and installed and it worked xD!
Thanks so much!!

Victor if you take a good look at your screenshot you’ll notice that your updates are not installed, but FAILED. Take a look again and you’ll notice that on your screenshot.

Something was wrong and you need to repeat the whole process…

As Sasha said it failed, but that is also not manually downloading, that is using the auto update interface.

When you click the little + sign, click the more information… and get to the KB article you can manually download an .exe file for that update (like any other internet file download), saved on to your HDD in a folder of your choice. You then need to double click on that file and it will install the update off-line, not only that you have a copy of the update should you need it again.

Haha good advice David it’s just he’ll be clicking till tomorrow probably haha ;D Instead he might wanna check THIS site out if he wants…

Cheers

Mikey

A very nice site, unfortunately it doesn’t check or rather can’t check which security updates you actually need.

Microsoft has just recently announced 26 new fixes to go into Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). Here's just a sample of what's going to be fixed. Click the SP3 link below to see all of this 26 fixes:
I only needed 8 of the 25.

I suppose it would be possible to list the KB numbers of the security updates, etc. that you need to get and then visit the hotfix site.

That’s the idea if you’re on dial up, but if u have a decent internet connection you can download all of the updates in a zip file(195 MB) And there’s always AutoPatcher XP

Cheers

Mikey

It took very close to an hour for me to install the 8 security updates by dial-up a real pain and something I have to plan as I have a 1 hour cut off, but can reconnect immediately.

AutoPatcher_XP_Oct2005_Full.exe can also now be downloaded from

  1. Myself and others (locally in Melbourne) , with legit windows XP are having problems with these updates using the auto-Update feature in XP. It initiates , then cuts out ???
Is this a Bandwith problem from the amount of people around the world overloading download servers. I have no idea how Microsoft distributes its updates ?
  2. DavidR I know how you feel .I’m also on dialup, downloading large items is a tedious affair… :stuck_out_tongue:
    3.bob3160,
    I’ve only just discovered and downloaded AutoPatcher_XP_SEPT2005_lite.exe :stuck_out_tongue: ;D
It took around 3 days as a Torrent file using BitTornado. ( Only way I could do it on DialUp .)
It’s fantastic program , when doing a install of Win XP . you must download SP2 firstly , then apply the AutoPatcher updates.

What process would you advise someone to download it (October version) from your site? StarDownloader free ?
Reason I ask is that you need to be able to pause and resume if downloading such a large file on a dialup connection.

My suggestion is find a friend with broadband and see if they will download it and burn it on to a CD ;D

If it took 3 days with torrent (what size was it?) I would have thought it would be similar or possibly longer with a download manager. I use star downloader and that is limit in the number of download streams I believe. This may not be the case with torrents? I often find that the firefox downloader is just as quick if not quicker at times. But dial-up sucks for this type of download no matter what method you use you can’t improve much beyond your connection speed limitations.

"...If it took 3 days with torrent (what size was it?) I would have thought it would be similar or possibly longer with a download manager..."
By 3 days , I let it download for about 3 hours each day. The Torrent was best option as with the way they had the file mirrored, if the connection dropped out that was it, you couldn't "resume' the download . It was hosted @ Megaupload also, which I had 80% downloaded and couldn't Resume, :o ahhhh!!! .The Torrent worked with downloading off "Peers", others who had already downloaded or partially, and it searched out other sources, plus you can stop it, and resume the next day. The 'Lite version of AutoPatcher_XP_SEPT2005_lite.exe is 100MB , so approx 9 hours on dialup. Full version is about 180MB. Now I have every critical and optional XP Sp2 updates burnt to disk, ( Yummy ;D ) except these latest ones. What is concerning me is that these latest updates aren't coming through from Microsoft. ??? Soon I suppose.
