If viewing the process list what is the name of the windows firewall process. I want to monitor it.

Remember that the ICF only blocks incomming, not outgoing packets. Best defense is a router with hardware firewall.
As I told you before KezzerDrix, best option is to buy one of those routers/firewalls… you can go as cheap as 25 $CAD, and that’s in my opinion still very affordable for students. SMC Barricade 7004VBR routers are very effective, price is more than great, and also you have 4 additional LAN ports (in case you wanna connect more than one computer in your house/apartment). Having at least one of those hardware firewalls, will give you much better protection even if it’s combined with standard (read - not fancy) Windows firewall…

Windows Firewall is more then enough good. Also buying hardware routers/firewalls for normal surfing and downloading is quiet stupid thing to do. Routers and hardware firewalls are for networks not single computer solutions. For these are software firewalls.
Well that was crap RejZor… sorry, but it was… I’m running my router/firewall and I know million of other people does. I’m doing online banking every single day at least 3 times. Don’t tell me it’s stupid thing to have especially when everyone knows they cost around 25 - 99 $CAD… considering that very huge number of us who are on broadband connections, connected 24/7, leave their computers on all the time (my computer for instance is computing something all the time - no matter is it 3D calculating or downloading something from the internet). Of course I wouldn’t bother with buying hardware firewall if I’m still on the Dial-up and I occasianlly turn on my internet connection… even if I really don’t see the reason for not having it… price is main factor, they are so not expensive nowadays.

There is nothing wrong with setting up a systems security properly. A properly setup router/firewall will help people to avoid a lot of problems with malware, hackers and such.

It is good advice bob, but i didn’t relise i was only seeing a small part of it, i read 90% of posts on this forum if not all to try and learn more, i knew what you meant, but just didn’t agree, the way i see it is the way something is said or meant to me meant can easily be mistaken online, but yet again im proberly making a fool of myself, i just don’t come online to sware and fight, don’t see why other people should either.

I have known many ex-military folks. Tact is one of their weak points. It is hard to be gentle to a newbie when you have been a drill sergeant, especially when english is you second (or third) language. I find responding with humor to their brusqueness rather than derision, usually gets the point across better. Imho.
The Windows updates icon has been sitting in my system tray for two days now saying “downloading updates 0%”. Come on SP2 do your thing. Yahoo has an SP2 compatability download waiting for me too.

I’ve been waiting for Windows to do it, just to see how they handled it. I will manually download however, if it is not done automatically shortly.

Plus, windows firewalls protects from boot up to shut down. Other software firewalls only work when windows is up and running. HENCE, the sasser, blaster virus’s being able to reak havok.
