Windows XP x64 - Security Center

Just downloaded and installed the latest WindowsXP x64 edition (build 3790, Service Pack 1 v. 1289), and installed Avast! Home 4.5.561 from the website. Only other things on this Windows installation are Firefox 1.0, Thunderbird 1.0, Trillian 3.0, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator CS, Acrobat 6 Pro, Acrobat Reader 7, MS Office and Stardock CursorXP .

Antivirus is running fine, scanned the machine and it was clean. But the Windows Security Center doesn’t detect any antivirus installed. I have searched the forums, and don’t see anything about Security Center issues in x64. I would assume that for the most part, the securyty cetner is the same as XP SP2…what’s going on here? Any ideas? ???

BTW, this is a FRESH install, not a repair install or anything. So what I have listed here is all that is installed. No upgrades from Norton or anything, clean as a whistle.

Have you tried a repair of Avast?
Have you uninstalled (using the util from the website) and reinstalled Avast?

Actually we’ll have to test if it works under Win64 (I doubt we’ve done it already as we have the machines in a domain and in this configuration, the whole Security Center is disabled).

It should definitely work under regular (32-bit) XP SP2 though.

Thanks

I have the same problem running 1289. It was ok in 1218 the previous version of XP x64.

Good.
Slightly off-topic: does the previous OS build have to be removed or can it be updated to the latest version?

Thanks
Vlk

I did a fresh install. Some people say it can be updated but as it is beta I think a fresh install is best.
