Hi ! I’m new on this forum.I hope you can help me to solve this problem.I tell you from now that my english is not so good.
Today morning when I turned on the computer after 5 minutes I received a warning from avast antivirus such as my computer is infected with a rootkit WindowsManagerProtect as written in the name of the topic.
I did what the antivirus said, I removed the virus because it was the only option and after that I gave a scan during the boot process .
Surprisingly after this scan,Avast not found any virus. The computer turned on,after five minutes the second time I see the same warning rootkit.I clean registry, files with CCleaner thinking that this can solve the problem. After run a quick scan that found virus,I obviously gave to repair it and after that said " action delayed until booting " I turn off the computer and turned it on.I thought antivirus solved the problem. The rootkit warning appeared again, and I gave him another quick scan. After all of that i have come here. I hope you can help me to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance !
Looks like a PUP:
Follow this guide: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Logs :
Upload and test file at. www.virustotal.com if tested before, click rescan for a fresh result
Post link to scan result here
Not a FP:
PUP.Optional.WindowsProtectManger.A, C:\ProgramData\WindowsMangerProtect\ProtectWindowsManager.exe, Quarantined, [fc5505f23c4dda5c9ad6b017738e11ef],
To Pondus :
I don’t understand i write in the file box the location of the WindowsManagerProtect but windows says can’t find it.
Or i got it wrong ?
Michael what to do next ?
C:\ProgramData\WindowsMangerProtect\ProtectWindowsManager.exe, Quarantined, [fc5505f23c4dda5c9ad6b017738e11ef],it seems Malwarebytes quarantined it, so it is no longer there ;)
Malwarebytes detected it as PUP.Optional.WindowsProtectManger.A PUP = not virus/ Possible Unwanted Program … usually crap that comes bundled with free downloads
Essexboy will check your logs and give more info
Wait, it was removed. Martin will remove anything left over…
So the file was quarantined. Thanks a lot Pondus and Michael.
For Michael :
Who is Martin ?
I need to wait untill Essexboy check my logs ?
My computer is clean now ?
Thanks !
Martin is Essexboy.
Yes, WindowsManagerProtect is gone (Or mostly). Essexboy/Martin will remove the leftovers.
Ok thanks again Michael :).
So i need to wait untill Martin check my logs ?
That is preferable, yes. Malwarebytes doesn’t remove everything, just most.
