My sister-in-law was running a boot time scan and, for whatever reason, shut down her PC while it was running. Now, when she starts her PC, WinXP won’t load.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks

Can you access safe mode by pressing tapping F8 as the computer is booting & select administrator no pasword default. When accessing safe mode remove avast through add & remove programes and reboot normally. And re install Avast again! if the computer boots up ok you will need your valid key!.
No, she is not able to boot to safe mode.
Can she get hold of an XP installation disk?
The only way it seems to me to fix this one is to do a repair install.
Mucho hassle.
Agreed. Repair install is the way to go. Lots of hassle, but it won’t write over any of the data. It sounds like that the ‘NTLDR’ file or some other boot file has been corrupted when shuttting computer off while scanning. Unlucky…
