Wireless casting recently stopped working. I have tried all the suggested solutions on the web but nothing works. Appears the only way to fix currently is to disable firewall in avast and use the Microsoft Defender Firewall.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
As you don’t say what you have tried it is tough to make a suggestion.
That said the area I would think is Firewall and Network Shield related as they work in combination. If your home network is set to Trusted then wireless connections within your network to the cast device should work.
