wireless help please
since I have downloaded Avast home edition I can no longer connect my lap top up to my desktop, I have tried to do it through the normal way, but it is being blocked (by avast ??)
Avast doesn’t have a sort of “firewall” that would block connections.
I’m guessing the problem is that you have a previous version of norton or symantec, or mcafee on your computer, and it wasn’t completely removed.
Please tell us, (if any) what Anti-Virus software or firewall software you had on your computer before you installed avast…
thanks for getting back, I had Norton anti virus
Ok, you’ll probably have to use Norton’s Removal tool. It’s a real pig to get rid of completely. It’s most likely the problem.
You can find the tool from here: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
There is another possibility for failing to make the connection.
If the Norton removal tool does not eliminate the problem please let us know the error message you are seeing when you try to connect the systems.
I have downloaded the norton removal tool, re-booted, but when I try to connect my lap top to the wireless net work
is says ’ wireless connection failed because the network denied the association request from this computer’
any ideas ?
by the way it was working ok with the old norton anti virus
It sounds like you might have the wrong encryption key, or MAC Address filtering enabled.
I don’t see why though.
Hopefully, Alanrf will provide a better answer…
thanks fpr your help, hopefully Alanrf can solve the problem
My apologies for my late return to this thread.
Alas, I regret that the error message does not match the previous cases where another Windows resource issue has caused a similar failure to connect.
All of the errors I have “googled” with this error message seem to indicate a problem of the kind anticipated by scythe944 . If the original poster has managed to find a resolution to this problem (again - my apologies for the delay in responding) then it would be of value to the forum.
