With Windows ME

In a couple of weeks I have to uninstall PC-cillen 2000 from my son’s computer because they are changing update numbers to get rid of people like him who have been able to use it for free for the last 4 years (long story). He is running ME.

Is there anything I have to watch out for when I remove it and install avast! ???

I don’t think there’re any, just uninstall PCC 2000 and install avast.

REAL old!!!! Stop using warez! It will bring more troubles than solutions! And if you do a little search eg with GOOGLE you will see that for every (?) paid application, there is a freeware application that does the same.

You as a father should teach you son better

He is running ME.
That is the worse version of Windows ever released. If the system can handle it, put XP (home or pro) or 2k on it. Much more stable, much better security, less errors! ME= short for More Errors or Major Errors or Major Evil

Thanks for your comments. The system is too small for XP/2k and I only need for him to get by for another 4 months - he’s working out of town and I am actually using his new system right now.

As I said we had 4 plus years of free PC-cillen. And yes - I too hate ME.

jnkyrd,

There is nothing wrong with ME. I have it on one of my systems with Avast Home. No problems at all.

After uninstalling Pc, reboot the computer before installing Avast.

After the install of Avast is done, reboot again.

This kind of “sets” things in place.

Avast fits into ME like a glove!

I don’t like the way you have to keep restarting win ME every time you install something noew, even win 98 i not as bad!!

That all depends on the program you instal. If there are registry changes involved in the new program, then you have to restart for those registry entries to to take effect. That's the case even in 98SE
