Word 2003 Hangs Saving Document

I downloaded & installed avast 4.6-731 Home a couple of days ago onto Windows XP SP2 workstation, and set the sensitivity to High. Previously had no anti-virus software installed. Running Windows firewall.

When I try & save changes to the Word document back to the Windows 2000 server share, Word hangs, and Windows Explorer hangs with a blank screen. I can run some other apps for a while, but eventually the only solution is a hard power-down.

As a workaround I stop the Network Shield provider, or reset the sensitivity back to normal, before saving the file - then I have no problem.

Looks like a bug?

Are you sure it was the Network Shield you stopped (to make the problem disappear)??

Sorry, I’ve been running happily on ‘Normal’ sensitivity, and forgot about the problem!

Yes it was Network Shield.

I just attempted to recreate the problem:

Set ‘Resident Protection’ to ‘High’
Rebooted
Confirmed ‘High’ still set
Opened Word document on server
Made changes and saved document

No problems encountered!

I have re-enabled Windows Update since the original problem, so maybe my Windows config was out of date, causing the problem.

Sorry to waste your time

Does the workstation work for home and non-commercial purpose?

Yes - could that be the cause of the problem?

No, you’re just broking the EULA rules.
avast Home version is only for HOME and NON-COMMERCIAL purposes.
You shoud buy the Professional version and help development.

Technical, DTU answered YES, not NO… ;D

Sorry, my terrible fault  :-[ :-[
Where are my glasses! Sorry again.

Hello, i have the same effect.
Avast pro and the XP Sp 2 Pro and Word 2000 SP3
When i save changes of the word dokument of the Server share, then
scan avast the temp file of c:\Windows\SCS.
This is the Offline files from User Account.
When i stopped avast i have no problems.

What is wrong?
Thanks
