WOT warning bad browser add on

On my desktop i do not get any warnings about WOT. Win 10 pro

On my Laptop I receive a warning about Wot Win 10 Home

Seems like maybe a bug :-[
latest version Avast Internet Security

No it is not a bug.
WOT is not trusted anymore.
There is a another thread on this webboard about it with a lot of information.

Thanks for your reply Eddy

I already know about the controversy with wot.
I was saying on 1 computer it is okay on another computer it is not okay. Surely something is not right.

Without knowing all the facts, that’s impossible to say.
Versions of both, vps and streaming updates received, etc, etc.

Hi bob3160

What other facts do you need, I will try and supply them,

It’s something for you to check. It’s your computers that showed different results…
If you get different results first check to make sure you’re comparing apples to apples.

Not sure I follow
Either it is a bad add on or isn’t, might be different computers, but why should there be different results.
After all Avast should pick it up etc whether using win 10 win 7 any system it works on

You’re correct. the OS doesn’t make the difference but,
if your Antivirus isn’t the same (updates, settings etc.) that would make a difference.

Hi Gunners,

For the WOT add-on it is a reputation question. At a certain point an interim Helsinki stakeholder that owned WOT at the time sold all user data to the highest bidder. There was quite a scandal about this, when this information became known. In such cases reputation management cannot cure a disaster. In the mean time WOT is back, but it probably will never recover from this ‘smear’. Rather a pity as it had an awful lot of good user input before the “beans were spilled” so to say

polonus

Redid smart scan still same results.
I did a repair, still the same, on Desktop still same result.
Ended up doing a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Success now both laptop and Desktop now shows WOT as a bad browser add on.

Thank you for your assistance bob3160

Hi polonus

Yes they certainly did cause a disaster for them selves.
I will see how it goes :-\

Your welcome. This proves that when you compare Apple to Apples, you get Apples.
When you compare Apples to Oranges you usually get Fruit Punch.

You didn’t say which browsers and WOT versions are in question.
The latest WOT versions for Firefox and Chrome are safe :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wot-safe-browsing-tool/?src=search

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/wot-web-of-trust-website/bhmmomiinigofkjcapegjjndpbikblnp?hl=en-US

WOT for IE is older version and it doesn’t contain tracking code.
Smart scan (Browser Cleanup) doesn’t detect them as bad reputation add-ons.
I guess the question is whether you trust WOT as company or not ?

Hi abruptum
I didn’t say what versions I was using as my question was about Avast say one thing an one computer and something else on another computer.

I am using the latest versions of WOT, as I always try to keep everything up to date.
