Yes, the new avast 5 is showing promise excellent speed, some room for improvement in detections, but still good to achieve Advanced+ again.

also, when the new version is coming out? last time I heard it was coming the late September, any information would be helpful?

The guestimate was September/October, but no fixed date, monitor the forums for any notification of a beta release. Then you will know it will be close, but it certainly won’t be released until it is ready and not any artificial time deadline.

avast! has usually done well with the AV-C On-Demand Comparative tests (Advanced or Advanced+), but has not been a stellar performer in the AV-C Retrospective/Proactive Tests–which is an indication how well AVs can detect/handle zero-day threats.

we have not hured anything on this mather, but might be the first beta verion if avast 5.1 thats is coming out then.

Does anybody know what else will include the 5.1 version beside improved behavior shield, boot time scan for x64 and secure desktop ?

In Free :

  • Improved Behavior Shield, also for x64
  • Boot time scan for x64

Probably also in Free :

  • Cloud features ( expected January 2011 )

In Pro :

  • Improved Sandbox with the new Secure Desktop feature
  • Something like secure DNS ( although probably not in the initial 5.1 release )

In IS :

  • Improved Firewall ( for example per-application packet rules )

I don’t know where you have heard it, pure speculation as there is no fixed date for release, so its best not to spread a rumour. Monitor the forums for the beta notification and that will give you the best indication it is close.

Yes, Behaviour Shield will be working in x64. I am sorry if that was not clear. I have corrected that in my original post :slight_smile:
