WSL internet access blocked by Avast premium

Hi all,

I’m facing problems when it comes to internet access for the WSL (ubuntu 20). I have seen that if I disable all the avast protections then I can run commands that need to access the internet in my WSL while when the protections are enabled then the WSL can not access the internet (a simple ping to google goes on timeout for example).

Do you know any solution? I would like to keep the protections always on and not disable them while I’m using the WSL.

Best Regards!

As far as I’m aware and it has taken a search to find anything -Avast Business Antivirus for Linux (a paid product version) is the only Avast product that supports Linux.

So if you aren’t using Avast Business Antivirus for Linux, I can’t see the Avast Windows product range supporting this.

However as an Avast User I can’t give any other information - That would have to come from the Avast Team.

You also need to realize if you aren’t a corporate customer that Ubuntu constantly updates
while your version of Avast for Linux doesn’t.
The will cone a time when the new and old no longer mix.

@DavidR @bob3160 Guys, he’s not using Linux. He is using Linux on Windows 10/11 via WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux).
Looks like Avast Firewall is blocking internet connection of WSL. I had similar experience before with Android on Windows 11 where Avast Firewall was blocking that as well. I even posted it on the forum.
So similar issues haven’t been fixed yet. Hopefully the Avast team will see this post and take steps to fix it. It is important.

Thanks for the more detailed explanation of the problem.
I’m reporting this to Avast on a more direct channel which will hopefully get this addressed.

Thanks for reporting. Let us know if there’s any update worth sharing.

Certainly not before Monday.

Here’s the reply I’ve received from Avast:
Hi, we are sorry for the issues. We believe, it is caused by RealSite feature and happens with WSL 1 only… The fix will be released in AV 22.10. It is also possible to switch to WSL 2 that should work without any issues.

Thank you all for the support

I hope it helped.
