I have upgraded the system from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
I have installed the last version of Avast Internet Security (Avast IS 2014.9.2006)
I have installed Wuala (secure cloud storage, http://www.wuala.com) which has installed Java Rubtime 32 bits (although my PC is a 64 bits system, Wuala requires Java 32 bits).
NB: Wuala.exe is installed in the following directory: C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Wuala\Wuala.exe
When I run Wuala:
Wuala, after a long time, writes that it can’t access the Internet
Avast IS doesn’t creating any Firewall rule for this application
The log of the Firewall doesn’t show any message indicating that an application has been stopped.
Note that Wuala works fine if I disable the Firewall agent for a while (all other agents being active).
I have the same problem.
After upgrading to Windows 8.1 and reinstalling the latest Avast IS, Wuala is simply unable to connect until I temporarily disable the Avast firewall.
Even if I explicitly add wide open TCP/UDP application rules for wuala.exe in the Avast firewall, it still doesn’t work.
This blocked traffic doesn’t even appear anywhere in the Avast logs… and yet it is clearly Avast that is blocking it.
If I remove all wuala.exe rule and reconfigure Avast to prompt me for new applications, then I try to run Wuala… I am not prompted by Avast. It is as though Avast is blocking traffic that it isn’t even seeing/detecting.
(FYI - The Windows Firewall doesn’t seem to have any influence on this issue. Whether I turn it on or not, the symptoms remain the same. Only disabling Avast allows Wuala to work.)
Suggestions? This makes Wuala almost unusable with the latest Avast IS.
My solution:
Kaspersky Internet Security.
At the moment I am using a 30 days trial licence of Kapsersky IS. It works fine. That means there are 29 days left for avast …
If there will be no solution I have to say good by to avast unless there are more than 5 month left of the payed avast licenced period.
I have exactly the same problem as Philippe (the first in this thread) describes.
I use Avast Premier Version 2014.9.0.2007 and Wuala does not work anymore, disabling all shields makes Wuala work agian. I presume Avast will work on a fast solution, it would be very bad to switch antivirus because of this, i paid money for this version!
Also new version of Wuala does not solve the problem. I took me another 15 minutes to test it.
The problem starts already when wuala is started, it takes minutes before the program runs. Afte deinstall of Avast the Wuala needs a few seconds to start. So it looks like more than only the firewall, there is really a conflict, and it all started after implementing Windows 8.1
I have a official ticket running with Avast for this, the asked me to install the new Avast today (…2008), but nothing has changed.
For my part I uninstalled avast and replaced it with another firewall/antivirus software. (I am a premium customer!!)
I am not willing to take these kind of problems any longer.
I have the same Problem… i am a long time Avast Pro User and i have a 3 PC License and recommendet it to many others, but it becomes unbareable…
If there is no fix for this soon, i will use another Antivirus solution…
P.S.: Dear Avast, you where my choice No.1, when it came to Virus Protection, but instead of being humble, i now have explicitly CLICK to not have Advertisements send in my Outgoing Mail. Please, you can do better than that.
I have Avast on four computers and access Wuala from all of them. On one I updated the Avast Software to the 2014 version 9.0.1501. I got the same problem with Wuala as mentioned in previous comments.
Wuala can not help. I found the solution in installing an old version of the Avast, the 7.0.1474 software version.
Now it works again. Since I do not use all the bells and whistles of the Avast software it suits me just fine. The menue is also a little easier to use. In the setup section I set the program update to MANUAL so that I am not constantly reminded to install the new software.
This experience with Avast makes me look around for another software. This especially since I have another problem with Avast when trying to run the Amateur Radio software Echolink.
Good luck to all of you (BTW: it reminds me of Norton. They did not listen to the user!!)
