XP Antivirus Pro

Hello, first of I have had Avast home installed on my pc’s for about a year now. I have been very happy with the product so when the license expired instead of renewing I decided to purchase the Internet Security suite. This was about one week ago. Today I visited a site that I usually visit without any problems my pc was infected with what seems to be XP Antivirus Pro. The Virus seems to have installed itself once the site completed loading as I was very amused to see avast fail to abort the connection. Before I realize what was going on I see the rogue program has already proceeded to shut off the windows firewall. I have already done some research and am not pleased to find out that the antivirus suite I have purchased is pretty much useless that I have to run malwarebytes. Could someone please tell me that there is something in the avast suite that can get rid of this rogue program.

– Sincerely, UNhappy Avast purchaser

I use and recommend Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM) and I purchased the Full version with the lifetime memberships for my systems.

The free version of MBAM should also be able to remove XP Antivirus Pro.

There’s apparently nothing in Avast to remove or prevent the trojan from getting on your system. See the thread I started here:

fishin_taco79, it doesn’t take long to make a system scan with malwarebytes. You should use it, because I don’t that avast has any additional tool to remove XP Antivirus Pro. Follow these steps and I think you will be bale to remove this virus:

  1. Go to Start->Run or press WinKey+R. Type in “command” and press Enter key.
  2. In the command prompt window type “notepad”. Notepad will come up.
  3. Copy all the text below and paste into Notepad.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.exe]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\secfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.exe\shell\open\command]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@=“"%1" %*”
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.exe]
@=“exefile”
“Content Type”=“application/x-msdownload”

  1. Save file as fix.reg to your Desktop. NOTE: (Save as type: All files)
  2. Double-click on fix.reg file to run it. Click “Yes” for Registry Editor prompt window. Then click OK.
  3. Download one of the following anti-malware applications:
    http://www.superantispyware.com
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html
    http://malwarebytes.org/
  4. Install the selected application, update it an run a system scan.

Good luck!

HI had same problem about 2weeks ago with this virus only called security tool then went right through avast4.8 no problem had to download mbam free to get rid of it am now using microsoft security essentials, mbam free, sas free,@ threatfire until avast get there hosue in orde, and yes i know no 1 av can stop all but come on this has been around for a while how come mbam, sas, kapersky can stop. SO COME ON AVAST your letting down an otherwise excellent product.

Before installing any anti-spyware tool (including Malwarebytes Antimalware), make sure you fix bad Windows Registry values by downloading ExeRepair.reg file and running it (XP Antivirus Pro).
Follow the instructions until you are offered to download Spyware Doctor and then download Malwarebytes Antimalware instead.

 that’s good bad registry can cause to some os a high cpu usage
