I’ve bought a new old computer with XP Pro as the OS. I downloaded the free home edition of Avast, but haven’t registered it yet. I’ve done all the updating. I’ve been using Avast for several years.
When I went to set up the email protection for Pegasus Mail, the Wizard was nowhere to be found. It’s not in the Programs/Start Menu.
There is no wizard for use with the XP operating system.
If the Internet Mail provider is running then avast will automatically scan mail received on POP port 110 or IMAP port 143 and mail sent on the SMTP port 25. avast does not know care about mail client in use it just scans the mail accesses to those well known ports since every email client has to obey the POP/SMPT protocol rules for access.
As Alan said, you don’t need to use the the mail protection wizard with XP or win2k or Vista, as it is transparent.
So your email should be scanned automatically by the Internet Mail provider, check out that providers detailed view and you should see that emails are being scanned.
You should also notice the avast email icon appear in the system try whilst email is being scanned (see image), the avast main icon should also rotate. You can also check the email headers and there should be line entries showing the email has been scanned.
