I have an ancient XP system that hung during use today, now hangs during reboot.
When I restart in safe mode it gets as far as aswrvrt.sys then hangs.
I have attached FRST.txt.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Hi initially we will try a restore
Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion try a normal boot
Thanks EssexBoy
Sadly that didn’t help - it still appears to hang in the same place.
I have noticed that Avast is installed on both C and F drives which is a bit weird. So I will remove Avast and see if that is the cause
Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
Then try a reboot
Thanks EssexBoy,
I got a message to checkdisk the F drive, I skipped this for the time being and YEAH, my ancient xp system is back up and running.
I’ll go back and checkdisk the F drive now.
Thankyou so much…
OK I also removed some adware, so once all is back up and running then run AdwCleaner to remove any that I missed
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
will do…
