xp

I am running Windows xp on one computer with 5 different users each with their own profile. It seems that I can only use avast! in my profile and not in any of the others. I have tried getting a different registration number for a different profile but that did not work. I have just scrubbed Norton Anti-virus from the computer & now feeling very vulnerable.

Any ideas? :-[

What do you mean by profile? An account?
What exactly is the problem - does avast tell you (when logged on under a different account) that it’s registration key is invalid?

Do you see the blue ball icon, occasionaly spinning in the tray?

If this is XP Pro, make sure you install Avast while logged in as ADMINISTRATOR, not as a user.

Aaahhh. I did not do that.

Thx a million.

I am log on as administrator but that’s not doing the trick. Now I am not the original admin and in fact there are three of us set-up as administrators including the original.

Could that be the problem?

Should we uninstall now & re-install under the original administrator?

Any other suggestions?

1] Uninstall Avast
2] Log in as administrator (NOT as user with admin rights)
3] Install Avast

It’s not a recommended profile… Just one administrator. The others could be even ‘Advanced users’ but not users with administration rights.

Try to run the setup.exe with the command “run as”. However, Avast does not have the feature when installing to choose if the program will run for everybody on the computer or just for the administrators. This does not depend on the OS but on the program itself.
