Your Speedtest result

Here’s mine (I’m downloading something so it might not be the fastest speed) and I have a 1Mb connection and that’s the fastest that my provider offers. Sadly, no cable here…

http://www.speedtest.net/result/314984537.png

My adsl is faster than what cable has to offer in my area.

Last Result: Download Speed: 6496 kbps (812 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 434 kbps (54.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

This should stop you complaining about how poor your download/connection speed is ;D

The ISP is also wrong.

My reported connection speed on my side is 50,6oo bps.

Notice the weird upload speed 10 times faster than the download speed, a physical impossibility on dial-up with a max upload speed of 36,000bps

Another dial-up results for your perusal.

High speed internet, Cable, with WI-FI and Comodo3 FW and AVAST HOME 4.8.1229, gives a bit less that my ISP claims to give me (7MBites/sec and 820Kbites/sec) :o

You shouldn’t take ISP claims as what you will achieve, you will note somewhere in the T&C up to xMB. This maximum can be effected by many things outside of your control, like how far you are from the telephone exchange, the further away you are the more it degrades.

That is why I’m still on dial-up I’m 9KMs away from the exchange, and accounts for on occasion bad dial-up connections. Many ISPs won’t even try to see if I can get anything reasonable in the way of a connection. There are others but they have the up to 8MB price but when you are likely to only get up to 256KB (max) they make no adiustment to your monthly charge.

There are a few of my neighbours on broadband and they get between 128KB and 256KB connection/download. I hate being ripped off, if they had a 1MB connection package that would be reasonably priced (lower than the 8MB option) then it wouldn’t be some much of an issue and something I could put up with.

High Speed is interesting if lets say 90-100% of the servers from where you download your web pages are on High Speed. If the majority of them are on dial-up, then it’s a waste of money! You can’t download at a greater speed than the server. Overall, I remember when I was on dial-up it took hours to do internet, into the wee hours, now I tend to be more relax but I don’t really surf much more, so dial-up would largely satisfy me too!

[font=tahoma]So say like you will order a 1MB connection service. Then the actual download speed (/eight) would be roughly 125KB/sec.?

I feel bad for dial-up users. It might be “overkill” to browse a page on a forum, and each page has at least one screenshot, lol.

864kbps Download Speed 160kbps Upload Speed.

Sadly, my area does not offer any higher speeds (except Verizon FiOs or a 3MB from Verizon; I don’t think about other services such as RoadRunner or that sorts).

"Uber"High speeds (to me) such as a 8MB would be in really competitive areas.

Here’ mine

http://www.speedtest.net/result/315260738.png

When they talk 8MB they mean 8 million bits per second which is somewhat less than 1MB per second as after dividing by 8 to give you bytes, you then divide by 1024 so 1,000,000 bytes to give 976.56 KB per second. Doesn’t sound so impressive as 8mb does it ;D

So the same for 1 million bits per second is 122 KB per second, you would like to hope it would be cheaper for a 1mb contract than being forced to pay for 8mb yet only get 122KB per sec not 967.56KB per sec.

Dial-up max connection (doesn’t equate to download speed) 56,000 bits per second / 8, 7000 bytes / 1024 = 6.83 KB per second and we all know you don’t get that max, but compared to broadband paint dries quicker than downloading on dial-up ;D

What do you have Dan, Fiber??

Anyway, I upgraded intermediate speed (600Kbites/s download) to high speed (7Mbites/s download) for just $10/month more with my ISP. It’s a deal!.. ;D Recommended processor speed by my ISP for High Speed is 1.8 GHz, I only have 1.6 GHz but it’s not bad like it is. RAM is also imprtant, you should have at least 1GB ;D

so far so good here in Egypt 8)

Sacramento, CA.

Cable.

What do you have Dan, Fiber??

Hi,
On Speedtest.net my speed is 7664 kbps download and 475kpbs upload and on Speakeasy Speedtest it is 8142 kbps and 487 kbps using roadrunner cable in Maine.
I know I can take a screen shot of the page and crop it in my graphics program, but is there a way to take a part of the HTML page and save it in a picture format without going through my graphics program?
Ro Ro 8) 8)

Yes there is and they are screen capture applications, that not only can capture a small (or all) of a screen, but can add effects/comments, etc. and produce the saved image file.

I use SnagIt 9.0 not free and I have been using it from version 6 or 7, but quite some time. There are also freeware options (some with not so much flexibility but adequate) like, WinSnap screen capture - version 1 is FREE for personal - http://www.filehippo.com/download_winsnap/?2173. There are others google is your friend.
