Zenmate VPN

Hi, seems that Zenmate VPN extension (free edition) causes high data traffic.
Google warned me 2 times for it. After disabling the extension the problem was gone.
Do others have same problem?
Any other options to Zenmate?
Hardware: chromebook Toshiba, Chrome OS version 51.0.2704.103 (64 bit).
