ZwQueryValueKey - BootExecute Error: 0x80000005

I scheduled a boot time scan and get this message - don’t know what this means, tho :slight_smile:

It seems to complete the scan anyway, but it also seems to do that very quickly, so I assume it doesn’t scan everything.

Hints are appreciated :slight_smile:

By the way, I really like avast. Nice work!

Regards
Daniel

PS: using windows xp, sp1

It means that your
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute
registry value contains more data than normally expected.
What do you have there?

I have this here there (3 lines):

autocheck autochk *
OODBS
aswBoot.exe /A:“C:\WINDOWS\addins;C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch;C:\WINDOWS\assembly;
C:\WINDOWS\Cache;C:\WINDOWS\Config;C:\WINDOWS\Connection Wizard;

Does it tell you something? Looks ok?

Well, the buffer for the registry value has limited size (in the boot-time scanner) - so it’s probably not able to load the whole of it.
Please, delete the aswBoot.exe part in regedit (keep just the first 2 lines) and schedule the boot-time scan again, preferably using a shorter part (C:\Windows, for example).
