aswRvrt.sys issue

Hello,

Basically i am having this issue and have read other threads about the same issue as well, especially the one started by calcuttaman.
My problem is exactly the same as his except that i am running windows vista.
i have downloaded the tools from his thread and i hope somebody can help me with this problem because i have just left my pc like that since this has been happening and havent done much since then to try and resolve it because i was stuck and needed help but here i am certain i will get my problem resolved quickly (i hope)
EDIT: also i already tried botting up the repair disc iso from my flash drive on my sick computer but the repair window doesnt show up… :frowning: all i see is my mouse cursor and the background (vista wallpaper pattern type background, also seen when first installing the windows vista os) and no matter how long i wait there appears to be no window showing up… is my pc completely broken? is there no way to fix it now? please help…
Thanks in advance!

follow guide and attach the requested logs. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

okay i will do that right away, also i have edited my post, i hope this problem doesnt impact the ability to solve my problem…

i cannot follow that guide because all the steps provided are to be done when the pc can be booted up to the desktop and my pc doesnt boot at all so where exactly do i start?

Near the bottom of the thread

If you cannot Boot the computer

Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

[*]Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
[]Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
[*]Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
[*]Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
[*]Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
[*]As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
[*]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
[
]Insert the flash drive with FRST on it
[]Locate the flash drive and run FSRT
[
]The tool will start to run.

[*]When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Try this:

Start your computer, hold down the F8 key until you see a list of Start Options.

Use the down arrow to go to Last Known Good Configuration

Hit Enter.

thanks for your advice but everytime my computer starts it already goes to that menu automatically and i choose that and it gets stuck on aswRvrt.sys then reboots. :frowning: so that wont work.

Thankyou for the instructions.
Is it possible to load OTLPENet.exe from a flashdrive as well? since i dont have any blank cds lying around… also i think my cd drive is broken on my sick computer because when i tried to run the windows vista recovery cd that i have it came with an I/O Device Error.

Have you tried unplugging the CD player, or making sure your Hard Drive is the first device to load?

I noticed in my Boot Log that the CD player is the next driver to load after aswRvrt.sys.

I could try checking if my hard drive is the first device to load, also i dont know how to unplug my cd drive >_<

Hi you have a registry corruption error

Attention: Software hive is missing.

ATTENTION: Software hive is not loaded.

You can use the Reatogo desktop to back up all files and data

after i backed up all my file and data do i reformat my os and reinstall windows vista? or is there a way to fix this registry corruption error?
thanks in advance.

There is no guaranteed way unfortunately, and the backup/restore of the registry is fraught with danger as a mistyped word could exacerbate the problem

I see, so what do you suggest i do at this moment?
im not sure what tool to use from reatogope to back up my files and how do i reformat my drive/reinstall windows vista using reatogope? please help me im stuck.

OK locate the files (generally in the users directory) that you want to keep, pictures, documents etc… Also make a note of all licences and passwords.

There is a guide here http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/173729-reformat-and-install-of-windows/ although it is for XP the basics are the same
From the Reatogo desktop you should be able to move all the data to a USB drive

What is the make and model of your computer ?

my computer model is from medion and i dont know the model since its quite old… made in 2009 i believe but originally its a 2001 model)mine was refurbished) oh and i tried to reinstall windows vista through my recovery disc while i was reatogope but it said something about vista not being supported. I dont believe a factory reset option is available for my model either. Must i reformat the c drive on reatogope?

I was reading about a person with Vista that booted to the same screen as you describe, with the same symptoms.

He couldn’t do anything else so he hit control alt delete and Task Manager opened.

Have you tried this?

Yes i tried it and it worked! thanks! but now i got an error that it couldnt find install.wim in the source location(the revoery disc that i had on my flash drive didnt have install.wim on it) so i found another solution. ^^
